Stephen Wilkie : Deputy Managing Director

Lumsden & Carroll

I joined Lumsden & Carroll in 1988 as a trainee engineer in the construction department and attended the new college Durham and The University of Teesside on a day release basis where I gained my ONC & HNC qualifications.

In 1991, I changed departments and became a Trainee Quantity Surveyor which involved enrolling at the University of Leeds to study a degree in Project Management, again on day release.

Then in 1998 I was promoted to Commercial Manager, which involved overseeing 15 members of staff and managing all financial aspects of the company.

In 2001, I returned to the Construction Department as Construction Manager responsible for approx £15 million of turnover each year and for the management of over 150 employees and subcontractors.

In 2004, I was promoted to the post of Construction Director which again changed my role in the company. This new role brought the additional responsibility for overseeing all the training of employees and staff in the department as well as building close relationships with new clients to bring more work in the area and together with my colleague, Steve Conn, I helped to establish and maintain the successful running of the construction department.

In 2007 I was promoted to the post of Deputy Managing Director.

John Davies Managing Director of Lumsden & Carroll Said ‘Stephen is an excellent and valued member of the senior management team. He has worked hard and has made a significant contribution to the success of the company over the last 19 years. He is a shining example to all as he shows what hard work can achieve. He thoroughly deserves to be company managing director’
