Colin Jamfrey : Plastering Manager

Dunelm Property Services : Plastering Division

In November 2005, I began working for Dunelm Property Services as the Plastering Manager. This was a new role, which had been created to expand the company in new areas.  A plastering division has now been set up, and we’re looking into a range of areas for development of the business. It’s a small team, with staff who are new to the job as well as time served plasterers that I’ve known throughout my career.

I have always worked within a plastering role, starting at 16, in a family owned business, TB Pringle, in which I worked for 11 years. After leaving TB Pringle I worked on various sites throughout the North East as a sub-contractor for many of the big companies in the Region for over six years. I then began working for a small company, firstly working on tools and then in the position of Plastering Supervisor, but also heavily involved within the buying function.

An average day starts with ensuring all jobs are organised and managed, with emphasis on making sure all drawings, materials and staff are available. We work as a team ensuring timesheets, estimating, customer service, tool box talks, wages and bonus are dealt with accordingly. Other duties include risk assessments, liaising with group companies & suppliers, organising PPE and recording mileage sheets.

Well what do I like about working for DPS . . . it’s got to be the team events, family fun day and the annual dinner dance. Working as a tradesman and coming from smaller companies, you really appreciate the benefits you get from this job, even the hamper at Christmas. The jobs great and the people are friendly and sociable. There’s always something going on, everybody works hard, but there’s always an event to get involved in, for example the charity football matches and golf days.
